Master Class
On March 29th I'm having a Master Class from 7pm-10pm at Chelsea Studios at 151 West 26th Street. This class is always exciting & informative. The participants demonstrate the ability to use the same technical approach in singing classically and in Jazz or other genres. We have two accomplished pianists; one from NYC Opera, and a new young Jazz pianist from Japan.
My desire is to make maintenance and longevity an integral part of these young people's thinking concerning their vocal gifts. I think it was Tony Bennett who attributes his long vocal career to the Art of Bel Canto, and it is Magda Olivero who debuted at the Met at age 65, still sings at 99, and can be seen on YouTube singing Panis Angelicus at 81 or 87.

- Kenneth Kamal Scott, lyric tenor, has participated in many arenas of America's artistic world, including the dance. He has been guest artist, Boston Pops under John Williams, the Virginia Beach Pops, New Jersey Philharmonic singing Uriel in Haydn’s Creation, and tenor for Messiah, Nevada Symphony. Other engagements include, “Sportin’ Life” in Porgy and Bess, Virginia Opera, Cover tenor for original Three Mo' Tenors; “Griot” in Black Nativity, Fitzgerald Theatre, Minneapolis. Broadway credits include Hello Dolly, Guys & Dolls, Two Gentlemen of Verona, and starring role of the 'Wiz' in the original Broadway company and in the 2004 Wiz production, Houston’s Theater Under the Stars. Mr. Scott is a regular recitalist in European classics and African-American Jazz. Concerts include: portrayal of Roland Hayes in his prime, The Legacy of Roland Hayes - 2001 Salt Lake City, Utah, recital at Merkin Hall, Lincoln Center in October 2004, and on April 3, 2010, a recital at the Countee Cullen Library, Schomburg Museum, Manhattan. He is presently on faculty at the New School University for Jazz and Contemporary Music and Mannes College of Opera.
